Full disclosure: I haven’t purchased Madden since high school because I just couldn’t get myself to spend the $60 ever year in college. That being said, I don’t think I like this move of having updated commentary every week based on actual events in the NFL.
Part of the Madden culture is hearing the same commentary over and over and over and over again to the point that it starts sneaking into daily jargon when you’re talking with your friends. When I listen to Cris Collinsworth doing Sunday Night Games, I can still hear him saying “If you bring pressure, it impacts quarterbacks” in Madden 2011 (Drew Brees cover). Now kids in high school won’t have that same experience. EA Sports is wasting an excellent opportunity to teach kids crucial vocabulary words. Next thing you know they’ll start updating the Madden soundtrack to the weekly Top 100 on iTunes. Kids will never hear the undisputed best football song of all-time.
