Night at the Garden

I hadn’t been to a Bruins game in a couple years so a couple of buddies and I bought pretty cheap tickets(by secondary market standards) for last night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  A few take aways from the game:

The Back-Up Goalie Disappointment

It should be expected when the Bruins play a piss poor team like Columbus, they are probably going to throw the back-up out there.  Nothing deflates a crowd more quickly than seeing the back-up lead the squad onto the ice during introductions.  The lights are out, the music is blaring, the light show is in full force, and then all of a sudden you say to yourself: “Shit, it’s not Tuukka.”  He skates over to the crease and starts fixing up his space while you look around at the fans around you with looks of helpless disappointment.

There was a glimmer of hope though.  Unbeknownst to me, the back-up for the Bruins this year is this guy named Chad Johnson.  Not a joke.  The dude surprisingly made some clutch saves and ended up winning the second star of the game.

Not a great video, but whatever.

The Garden Popcorn

Typically, I’m buying only peanuts and nothing else at a sporting event.  Every now and again I’ll splurge and get a hot dog, but only on rare occasions.  I don’t know what the hell got into me, but I decided buying popcorn would be a good idea at the second intermission.  Stuff is atrocious.  Not anything like the movie popcorn I’d hoped it to be.  Making things worse, I bought the large size.  Waste of $5.50.  Could’ve bought five McChickens and had a couple coins to spare for the homeless guy propped up outside.

The Game

Bruins didn’t play great.  Shawn Thornton had a goal.  Lucic scored the game winner in OT.  Nathan Horton (now on the Blue Jackets in case you’ve been living under a rock) didn’t play because of some injury or whatever.  Bruins on a five game winning street.  All you need to know.
